Start Your Own Business With A Jump Start!

It can be challenging starting your own business and that’s why the City of Federal Heights and the North Metro Small Business Development Center (SBDC) want to help Jump Start your success.jumpstart_300.jpg Starting off on the right foot is critical for success and that is exactly why the Jump Start Program was created.

The North Metro SBDC’s Director, Chris Luchs explains, “The Jump Start Program brings all of the needed information resources together in one place.  The program is an intense 8 week cycle with a mix of classroom learning and one-on-one mentoring.  We get into forming a business plan, marketing your business, business finance… the whole smash of business start up info.”

There are several goals of the Jump Start program, one being to make new business people ‘investor ready.’  “There are funding sources,” Luchs explains, “for small and micro businesses, but every investor wants to be assured that the person with the idea for a business is serious and understands business fundamentals.  Completing Jump Start can give those investors confidence that this business idea is worth funding.”

Jump Start is a program administered by the SBDC in conjunction with the US Small Business Administration, Front Range Community College, Adams County, Federal Heights and several other cities.  Coursework and mentoring sessions are held at the Community College campus on 112th Avenue, just west of Federal Blvd.  Jump Start is designed for residents of Adams County and costs participants $120, but for those that are in the low and moderate income range, the Jump Start Program costs only $20.  There are both English and Spanish versions of Jump Start and class cycles begin in January, 2009.

“Federal Heights’ economic development goals are to create jobs, increase the tax base and attract capital investment to our community.  The Jump Start Program allows us to grow these goals from the ground up,” said Robert Smith, the city’s Economic Development Director.  “Working with our small business entrepreneurs is a great way to bolster our local economy.”
