City of Federal Heights Approved and Prohibited Vegetation List
Friday, 11 September 2009

The City of Federal Heights recently updated and expanded its approved vegetation list from roughly 40 types of deciduous trees and shrubs and 4 groups of evergreens to well over 500 approved species of vegetation.  This update provides the residents, developers and nurseries in the city with far more landscaping options.  Additionally, the city updated the prohibited vegetation list from only two species to include the complete list of State of Colorado, Department of Agriculture's Noxious Weed List and locally identified invasive plants.  Many of these invasive and noxious weeds are difficult to control and remove once established and some are opportunistic seeders that can germinate in cracks of cement foundations, drive ways, curbs, gutters and other valuable infrastructure and then cause considerable damage to public and private property as they grow into large trees.   Prohibiting their sale and planting provides a direct benefit to the property owners of Federal Heights.

What is a noxious weed?
To learn more about noxious weeds, see the Federal Bureau of Land Management Weeds website.
